IGP files comments on proposed Noncommercial Stakeholder Group charter

The IGP filed comments today in ICANN's second proceeding on GNSO Stakeholder Group Charters. In its comments IGP identified both substantive issues in the revised NCSG charter proposal drafted by ICANN policy staff, as well as procedural flaw in ICANN's proceeding. In light of these concerns, IGP asked that ICANN immediately drop its attempt to impose its revised NCSG charter proposal, and instead reinstate the original Noncommercial Stakeholder Group (NCSG) charter proposal submitted by the…See More

About

Who is IGP?

The Internet Governance Project (IGP) is an alliance of academics that puts expertise into practical action in the fields of global governance, Internet policy, and information and communication technology. The Project both researches and publishes analysis of global Internet policy issues. You can read more on how our work relates to the interests of civil society.

IGP maintains a Scientific Committee that is responsible for joint policy analysis and contributing to Project activities. Founded in the United States, the IGP includes participants from Syracuse University's School of Information Studies and Maxwell School of Citizenship, the School of Public Policy at the Georgia Institute of Technology, the London School of Economics, Wissenschaftszentrum Berlin für Sozialforschung (WZB) (Social Science Research Center Berlin), the School of International Service at American University, Delft University of Technology, and Hertie School of Governance (Berlin). We continue to add participants from other world regions as appropriate collaborative relationships are forged.

What is the goal and purpose of IGP?

The goal of the Internet Governance Project (IGP) is to:

* Inform and shape Internet public policy choices by providing independent analysis and timely recommendations.
* Identify and analyze new possibilities for improving global governance institutions
* Develop policy positions guided by the values of globalism, democratic governance and individual rights.

Our work contributes to policy discussions and related debates at the global, international, regional and national levels. The IGP is active in international institutions like the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), Regional Internet Registies (RIRs) like ARIN and RIPE, the UN Internet Governance Forum (IGF), and the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD-ICCP).

Who supports IGP's work?

In 2008, the Project was awarded a follow-on grant from the Ford Foundation's Civil Society and Governance, and Media units. If you are interested in supporting our work please contact Brenden Kuerbis at bkuerbis [at] internetgovernance [dot] org.
